Theme: Sustaining Our Environment Postcard Exhibition

 

Sustain our environment! The Women’s Caucus for Art (WCA), a national women’s artists’ association and an NGO of the United Nations, invite mail artists and artists of all media to support the UN’s Millenium Goal, “Sustaining Our Environment.”  The Millenium Goal’s objectives are:

 

·        Integrate the principles of sustainable development into country policies and programs; reverse loss of environmental resources

·        Reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water

·        Achieve significant improvement in lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers, by 2020

 

Submit 4”x6” or Size 6 postcards made from recycled materials and reflecting the theme of “Sustaining Our Environment” by January 15, 2008 . On the back of the postcard, provide your name, address and the materials used to make the card.  Submissions will be exhibited during the February, 2008 WCA and College Art Association (CAA) annual conferences at Ft. Worth-Dallas, Texas. At the exhibition, works will be auctioned to benefit the United Nations.

INVITED MAIL ARTISTS 2  
SINCE starting work on Mail Art Projects, I have met friends and artists from all over the world. Mail Art Artists have produced very special and unique art pieces. In April 2006 (8 April - 8 May 2006) , I had my 12th Solo Exhibition at one of the well known art galleries in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 50 pieces of paintings on canvas from the 'Foundation Series' were exhibited at the exhibition. "INVITED MAIL ARTISTS EXHIBITION was in conjuction of Suzlee's 12th Solo Art Exhibition, and the exhibition was VERY SUCCESSFULL.
In appreciation to Mail Art Artists, I again WILL provide a corner (INVITED MAIL ARTISTS CORNER) and invite all Mail Art Artists from all over the world to contribute for this event. 'INVITED MAIL ARTISTS 2'

Theme: Celebrate the launching of Sputnik.  From the coordinator of "Alyonka", this mail art project will honor the first artificial Earth satellite, launched in Russia in 1957.
The Second International Mail Art Exhibition dedicated to Sputnik will be presented to public in Yoshkar-Ola Museum of Fine Arts in October 2007.

Second Annual Mail Art Exhibit for Cancer Research  
The theme is "Just Imagine... ( a world without cancer).
Our First Mail Art Show was held at the end of September 2006. It was a great success. Visitors just loved the variety of artwork that was received. Over 270 pieces of mail art from over 40 countries worldwide. We were able to contribute $374 in donations from our visitors to the Terry Fox Cancer Research Fund. This Exhibit was viewed by 1,800 visitors.
We have decided to do it again this year. Please get involved in this project! This exhibit apart from being fun is also to help raise funds for Cancer Research. Cancer has touched everyone in someway; perhaps a family member, a friend or a co-worker. So please send in your work! My goal is to get Mail Art from every country in the world - to show that the world cares!!!

Theme: Yelabuga is a small Russian town.
It is situated on the river Kama. Yelabuga is the native town of the famous Russian artist Ivan Shishkim. The famous Russian poet Marina Tzvetaeyva spent the last days of her life in Yelabuga. Yelabuga will celebrate its 1000th anniversary in 2007. My mail art project is the present to my favorite town.

WHAT TIME IS IT?
Theme: Is it 20.08 or 2008? What is your time? Now, tomorrow?  What is the time where you live? Tell me about that in mail art pictures.
In Finland mail art is not yet widely known. I have an opportunity to arrange a mail art exhibition in the City of Tampere, in the splendid exhibition rooms of Tampere Hall, with the aim to make mail art better known to those living in Tampere.
The fine exhibition area, Winter Garden, is rather small, it may hold only about 40-50 works. So, contrary to the civilized practice of mail art, I am forced to limit the number of works chosen.
Those works that can’t be displayed in Tampere Hall will be exhibited in Gallery G, a gallery founded by myself. It is also a Mini-Museum dedicated to mail art. It is no worse place, but naturally Tampere Hall has a finer reputation, as it has housed large international congresses and EU-meetings.
Tampere is the third largest city in Finland and the largest inland center in the Nordic countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway).
Tampere Hall (Tampere-talo) is the largest concert and congress center in the Nordic countries. Tampere Hall is located in Tampere on the edge of a lovely park, just across the road from the main building of Tampere University and within a short walking distance of the city center.
The exhibition will take place either at the end of 2007 or at the beginning of 2008. I will be informed of that as soon as the congress and concert program will be settled in Tampere.

Adel Imam 
Theme: The theme is Egypt's film superstar Adel Imam, whose credits include 105 movies. He is one of the best-known actors in the Arab world. In a rich career spanning 30 years, he has portrayed - with humour - victims of injustice, poverty, corruption, fanaticism, and dictatorship. His roles have displayed a wide range of humor including slapstick, farce, and even the occasional double entendre. His characters tend to be down on their luck rising above powerful outside pressures. This has proved an extremely resilient type in the Arab World.
The exhibit will be held in Kuwait, so images should not include any nudes or religious content as the censorship is strick- such are the conditions we have to exhibit under. If you have the energy to contribute let me know what you think and I can send more details.
